Rest Day – Valley View Lodge Kitchen
Thame Day of Rest and Reflection
A long night of rest refreshes the worn body. We make our way to the kitchen to find a pot of hot tea and an omelet to feed the wolf inside. We meet Oleg and Masha (Our Russian Pals) for breakfast and share our experiences since we met last. Oleg and Masha want to visit the local monastery, we encourage them to go as we are not yet ready to start moving. The Russians bid us farewell and head to the monastery and then will start their trek back to Kathmandu.
Internet is not limited here so we call home and check on our much missed four legged kids. All is well at the Ranch and sets us at ease. My head and nose are congested and my throat is sore. I officially have a cold. Weariness creeps in and I head back to bed. The Bearded One spends time catching up on emails while I drift in and out of restful sleep. The sleeping bag is warm, the bed comfortable and a gentle rain taps along our window. Every minute of rest adds to the much needed recovery. We are through the difficult part of our trek. A day of rest offers one more day to enjoy the high mountains.
Hunger rouses me from my sleep and I send the Bearded One to find a snack. He returns with an omelet and tea. A fully belly induces sleepiness that I cannot resist. I sleep the rest of the afternoon. The Bearded One goes down for supper and returns with a pot of tea. My guts are unhappy and food is not attractive.
We reflect on our trip and lament the winding down of our adventure. The trip to Ama Dablam base camp was the highlight of the trip for both of us. Neither of us can articulate the draw to Ama Dablam, but we are in good company. She speaks to the soul of many. Some admire from a distance, some attempt a climb past the Dablam to the summit, and some admire her from base camp. We accomplished just about everything we planned for this trip and are pleased with our adventure. Save for the last two days, I have been healthy and strong and surpassed any limits I thought I had on my physical abilities. The time spent together, wandering, wondering, being moved to tears and meeting new people has been the best part of all.
