We camped the night before off the forest service road, so we had a bit of a drive to get into the Park. We were up at 6:00 and drove to the North Rim to find some breakfast. We had a delicious breakfast at the N Rim Lodge and went over to the Backcountry Information Center to check in.
We fooled around and did not get going out to the trail head until early afternoon. It seems that the best laid plans don’t always work out. Instead of taking the Kibbey Butte route, we started down the Saddle Mountain and Nakoweap trail around 1:00. The Fall colors were fantastic against the backdrop of red rocks.
We made it to Marion Point around 4 and took a break. The sun was starting to slide from the sky so we decided to make camp for the night. It was a chilly night so we broke out the bivy sacks for extra warmth and protection from the constant cool breeze. It was almost a full moon and the brightness kept me awake for a bit after a mid night trip to the loo. We were also treated to the song of an owl for most of the night.
