Trekking in Nepal has been a life long dream. This year, The Bearded One and I decided to make it happen. Books were bought and read, websites scoured and a scheme was hatched. It would be the 3 Passes Trek, taking us to the base camp for Ama Dablam, Island Peak and Everest and climbing three high passes, all over 5,000 meters (17,000 feet). We both got 30 days vacation from our jobs, airline tickets were bought and travel insurance secured. Our final decision was to make this trip self-supported – no porters to carry our gear and no guides to lead us. This gave us maximum flexibility in our schedule and meant that we would carry 15kilos (30 lbs) backpacks.
We invite you to come along and wander with us through the high country of the Khumbu region of Nepal.
